Today my Dearest friend lost her battle with Cancer. Alice n I have been friends since 1962, we were in the same business class in high school . From the first time I met her we clicked and it was the start of a long friendship. We shared all our cares n woes and believe me we had lots of them. What fun we had when we were together too!
Alice could make everyone in the room laugh, she had such quick and witty humor. No one had a kinder heart, she was so caring n such a good listener. Her life was no bed of roses.. she endured the loss of her only son several years ago and two brothers during the same time. But through her faith she was able to deal with the sorrow. I have watched Alice become riddled with back pain which she thought was Arthritis, to the point where she could hardly make it up one step. Just three short months ago she was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on her spine, which had spread to her lung n liver, she was in stage four. My mind told me that she would not live much longer, but I hoped and prayed that with radiation n chemo it would go into remission and give her a little more time on this earth. God must have needed an extra angel and he called her home. When I went to see her for the last time on Saturday, she told me she was ready to go. I am happy that she did not linger in pain too long, that is comforting. Life goes on and death is all part of the big picture. We all understand that, but we never want to let our loved ones go, it means we will never see them or talk with them ever again...it is the end!!! Over time we do adjust, but its a sad adjustment. Our happy memories kick in and help to get us through. Alice will always have a special place in my heart and my memories of her will put a smile on my face. Rest in Peace my Dear Friend!
