It's All Over

Well Irene came n went without tooooo much damage!  After watching the news this afternoon..it looks like the New England Sates got the worst of it!!  It was a scary night listening to the rain n wind pounding against the house...but after this mornings light and taking a look outside, we were very happy to see no damage what so ever! Never even lost our power like a lot of the others. Around 2pm this afternoon the sun came out n it turned out to be a gorgeous day. Jer  and I were anxious to take a ride and see some of the damage caused by the storm.  We drove for miles n saw nothing but a lot of leaves on the road and some small tree limbs down. After turning into the State Park close to our house,we finally saw some downed trees. Here are a few shots of the minimal damage our neck of the woods got. We thank God for our good fortune this time!!! Prayers go out to the less fortunate!

Earthquake n Hurricane all in One Week

What a week we have had here on the east coast of the mid Atlantic states. On Tuesday at exactly 1:51pm we had a 5.9 earthquake, the tremors lasted just seconds but it totally unglued some of us.This is not a common occurrence in this part of the country and it was so weird to feel that sensation and it was scary at the same time. Luckily there was minimal damage as far as I know and no casualties.
Now this same area is watching n waiting for a huge category 2 hurricane Irene, to travel up the coast and pay us a visit. We live pretty much inland, so we expect winds n rain overnight on Saturday. But the coastal area's are being evacuated because of the storm surge! It's a real nail bitter and everyone is glued to the weather channel. They are saying that this could be a Historic storm because it will affect so many states. Jer n I are sitting tight n praying for the darn thing to blow out to sea and spare the
millions of people who live here!!!
Prayers do help...so if you can...send some our way! Thanx my friends!

LATEST DEVELOPEMENT ON THE STORM 9:21am
just cloudy now, but expecting heavy rain n gusty winds overnite into tomorrow morning here in our  neck of the woods!!!! We really lucked out!!!
  • Irene weakens to Category 1 storm early Saturday, but is still dangerous

  • Landfall expected around 9 a.m. ET at near Cape Lookout on N.C.'s Outer Banks

  • 2.5 million under evacuation orders; 550,000 are in NYC, Long Island

  • NYC, N.J., Philadelphia to suspend mass transit service during part of weekend

  • Hard rain falls on North Carolina's Outer Banks

  • Hurricane Irene zeroed in on land Saturday, losing some power but still threatening a catastrophic run up the East Coast as more than 2 million people were told to move to safer places to escape the massive storm.
New York City ordered America's biggest subway system shut down for the first time ever because of a natural disaster. A hurricane warning was issued for the city for the first time in two decades, and more than a quarter-million people in New York were ordered to evacuate.
The warning was in effect Friday from North Carolina in the south all the way to Massachusetts in the north. Officials declared emergencies, called up hundreds of National Guard troops, shut down public transit systems and begged hundreds of thousands of people to obey evacuation orders.
U.S. airlines were canceling at least 6,100 flights through Monday, grounding hundreds of thousands of passengers. The storm could strike major airports from Washington to Boston with heavy rain and dangerous winds.

    The Joys of Golf

Last weekend...Jer n I were invited to our friends annual luau. They always have a putting green set up and it gets a lot of action.  Now Jer is a real golf nut...but it wasn't always that way.  We lived right on a golf course for seven years and I can count on one hand how many times my hubby played that course. It really wasn't until he retired in 1999 that  the game of golf became Jer's passion. Now he is a Golf Pro..wanna be. One of our grand daughters happened to be at this Luau also and the Golf Pro..wanna be...zoomed in and started giving her pointers. Gabby was a good sport n listened to her Grandpa...golf pro wanna be.  he did teach her a few tips on how to hold the golf club...Next week..Jer is playing with grand son Zach who is 15 and loves the game of golf and has been taking lessons with a pro...What is that saying!!! "It's not about winning but how you play the game"!!!  WE WILL SEE! Should be interesting who comes out on top!

    Old Time Theme Park

This past weekend was filled with family activities...on Friday just us girls (me, my two Daughters n the four Grand daughters went to "Knoebels" a theme park tucked away in the mountains in Central Pa.
here are a few photos of our fun time!
Oldest  Grand daughter Carley  n friend on the power surge....
The power surge...its a twisting upside down kind of ride. No way did                                            I  get  on that thing!!!
The old wooden roller coaster was a blast from the past for me...nope...didn't get on that one either.
The three oldest grands got on it though!!! I watched from my comfortable bench in the shade!
Next was the water flume....this time it was just two of the grands n two of their friends. Did I get on??? Nope...someone had to take pictures!!! They didn't get wet on this one...but later on they got on another water ride n got soaked...no pics of that one!!!!
Now on to the Haunted House...can you see how much fun they had.

This was our youngest Gran Holly's first time at a Theme Park n she was really getting into it!
She got on the Tea Cup ride with her Aunt Kelly....you 'can't tell...but.....this ride made Aunt Kelly queasy n it made Holly cry!!! ( I think it scared her with all the jerking movements)
Holly n her mom Tracy Loved the gingerbread play area!
I think Holly would have been happy to stay n  play in this area all day!
Finally it was time to get on the only ride I wanted to go on..."The Sky Lift".. ..we were in back of Casey, Gabs n her friend  Andrea!   The ride goes way up into the side of the mountain...if your afraid of heights..your out of luck!!!
                                                             The view was awesome!
After all that walking from ride to ride...it was time for a snack....the ice cream n root beer floats were to die for!!! The oldest gran n her friend went off on their own, like teenagers do, that's why we only have one picture of them!!! All n all it was a wonderful time...and the weather was perfect...sunny but not tooo hot!!!  Needless to say...I slept like a baby when we got home very late that night!  If you are ever in this neck of the woods...I highly recommend this Park.. .knoebels   its very nostalgic and there is no admission or parking fee...you pay as you go with each ride! You can take a picnic lunch inside and that makes it very affordable for a young family!
